23.08.2016 Dudi Appleton & Jim Keeble adapt The Judge Dee Mysteries in unique UK-China collaboration

The upcoming 40-episode Chinese TV series is based on the classic detective novels by Dutch orientalist Robert van Gulik. Rights to the novels were acquired by by Beijing-based producer Wang Donghui, whose credits include the acclaimed martial arts drama Brotherhood Of Blades.


Based on a historical figure whose exploits were celebrated in Chinese folklore before being immortalized by Van Gulik in his electrifying mysteries, Dee is a Tang Dynasty magistrate, inquisitor, and public avenger, a master-detective for the ages.
